Buying commodities in installments (1)

Question:
I want to buy a Laptop on installments because I don’t have enough money to buy on cash. I have asked my religious friends. Some of them say that it is not Haram as it is the service charges what we are paying. Some of them refused this statement. I am really confused now. These all could be their personal views, but I’m not satisfied with their logics and theories about Haram & Halal. So, I am asking you about it because I felt you could help me to understand the theory of Riba.

You will have to send me the details of what the arrangement is. Generally speaking, I think in case of buying commodities in installments some arrangements can be okay and others can have problems in them. Please answer this question: If during the period when you haven’t made the full payment, you refuse to pay any more installments, what will happen? I will then be able to tell you if it is okay or not.
