Does Surah Anfal imply Pakistani and Indian Muslims cannot inter-marry?
Question:
I wanted to understand few things, in light of Sura No:8 Al ANFAL. Ayat No:70 onwards. What is Dar ul Kufar & Darul Harab? Are the things explained (especially HIJRAT) in these specific to times of Prophet PBUH or they are valid for today also? India/Pakistan enmity is the same as after the HIJRAH of Makka and Madina (Muslims and Kuffar).
In Tafhim al Quran it is briefly explained that THEY SHOULD NOT EVEN MARRY BETWEEN THEM, is it applicable to HIJRAT of 1947 from India to Pakistan? Is India Darul Harab in that space’s? One of my relative was explained during a DARAS E QURAN, that the Muslims of India and Pakistan cannot marry their children as they should have migrated to Pakistan in 1947 or later.
I shall appreciate your comments.
Response:
I think these verses were relevant to the times of the prophet, alaihissalaam. There are more Muslims living in India than in Pakistan. The decision of making Pakistan was taken by some Muslims, not all, of the sub-continent. Those who took that decision were neither prophets nor angels. It was a subjective decision based on their honest judgment. We respect their sincerity but may not agree with what they decided. It would therefore be an exaggerated claim that India was Darul Kufr and Pakistan was Darul Islam. What kind of Darul Islam is Pakistan where liars, cheats, and usurpers of the rights of others rule and prevail over others?
I agree with the opinion that in the present times there is neither a Darul Kufr nor a Darul Iman: The entire world is Darul Da’wah: Everybody needs to be extended the da’wah (preaching of the right message) of Islam. Both Muslims and non-Muslims need that. Muslims need to be educated through ta’līm and non-Muslims need to be preached through tablīgh. So both India and Pakistan are darul Da’wah.
