Differing with strict opinions of the school being followed

Question:
I am following (aqeedah wise not as practical) salafi/wahabi/ahlehadith approach to understanding Islamic faith, where we do not celebrate various rituals in Islamic society, I do not go to graves asking wasta etc. Yet I believe that some of the non-aqeeda rulings of this group are so backward especially towards modern science, women covering faces and asking to stay at home etc. I do not know if there is such a jama’at in Islamic world that has all rather central approach to understanding, what is your opinion? I also do not consider Shias as out of Islam which this group considers. I have few Shia friends and trust me their understanding of our Islamic history and also about Allah’s wahdania is far better than normal Sunni Muslims. Yes they went to extremes when it comes to Ali. Anyway I am so confused with the Islamic world that some times I wonder why all this to the nation of the last prophet? Why?

Response:
I agree with you completely: Salafis have the right aqeedah and approach towards the question of celebrating bid’at-based rituals, but when it comes to practical matters, they are too harsh. I can see the point that Shias can be better than us in some or many matters. Why not? We have no monopoly over religious excellence.
