Baring ankles

Question:
I heard in one of your TV programme that it is not necessary to keep your shalwar above ankles as in old days it was a sign of arrogance where as our Prophet declared it as Haram in various Ahadith.

Response:
The chapter of Sahih Bukhari that mentions the requirement of garments not to be lowered beneath the ankles also clarifies that such requirement was meant if someone does so out of arrogance and also that our beloved Abu Bakr was allowed by the prophet, alaihissalaam, not to do so.
