Third party insurance (2)
Question:
Thanks for your reply but I had some confusions while discussing your reply with my friends. According to them, a lot of Islamic scholars say that Allah is responsible for all losses and benefits in our life and if we have some accident, it means that it was written by God in our destiny. So, how can any person or company compensate for our losses? It means that we deny the fact that ALMIGHTY ALLAH GIVE US LOSSES AND BENEFITS. Please explain with some Qur’anic references.
Response:
All losses and gains are from Allah Almighty and yet we plan to do our best to improve our results. Even if we try to do our best while the Almighty has decided something else for us, we cannot influence His decisions. However, that fact in no way means that we should stop trying. We know that if our house is to be robbed, nobody can stop it from happening. However, we still have security guards appointed for the purpose of securing ourselves. Sometimes, we save funds for the future purposes to feel secure that we are properly covered in case of emergencies. That in no way means that we do not believe God cannot inflict losses on us. It’s just a human effort to secure ourselves from future contingencies. Similar is the case with insurance. While going for an insurance plan, we are not declaring that we don’t have faith in God. We are only demonstrating that we are trying to do our best in our small, human capacity to remain safe while acknowledging clearly that God has command over everything. This is exactly in line with the guidance of the prophet, alaihissalaam, which he gave to the person who had thought that it was enough for him to believe that his camel was safe, because God will take care of it. The prophet said this to him: “Tie it (your camel) and then have trust in God.”
