Should we attempt to reason in Islam?

Question:
Should logic and reasoning be the sole reason to accept Islam or should we have a firm faith on its Truthfulness? I mean to say that should we reason in Islam? & Should we try to prove the verses true with regard to modern Science?
What if a man believes in all aspects of IMAN-E-MUFASSIL except Faith in fate....,Would he be considered a Muslim? Where has Iman-e-mufassil originated from?
Please do give references of Hadiths & Verses regarding Belief in Fate.

Response:
Assalamo Alaikum

When you say that you believe in Islam as the religion of God, you should be convinced about it. This conviction can be at different levels. However, it cannot be just blind. Had blind following of faith been desirable, the Almighty would have said so and had not given any evidences for faith. The book of Allah offers evidences after evidences to enable the reader to believe.
However, belief comes in stages. To begin with, we believe what our elders tell us. After we start growing, we start questioning some of the things they had taught us. Later, we learn on our own through different sources as to what is right and convincing and what is wrong and unconvincing. Of course, we have doubts in our minds as well. Acquiring faith is an ongoing process. It never ends. We either move from one station of faith to another, higher one or we go down from a better station to a lesser one. Acquiring faith is both an intellectual exercise as well as a test of character. Along the learning path during the journey of guidance (Safare Hidayat) one is confronted with challenges to one's truthfulness and firmness of character. If an individual is serious in learning the truth, the Almighty promises guidance towards the right path. If a person is after his baser desires, and is therefore not serious in learning the truth, the Almighty doesn't allow him to have true faith. The Qur'an says: "Those who strive in our way, We will most certainly open our ways (to guidance) for them. And indeed Allah is with those who are good performers." (Qur'an; 30:69). In another passage He says: "Allah becomes the protecting friend for those who (want to) believe; He brings them out of the darkness of ignorance towards the light (of faith). As for those who are (bent upon) disbelieving, their friends are Satan, they take them away from the light (of truth) towards the darkness (of untruth)." (Qur'an; 2:257)
Imane Mufassal is a compilation of the teachings of Islamic faith by some scholars. As I have mentioned above, we all travel in our journey of faith. In the process we sometimes have questions about the truthfulness of certain aspects of Islamic teachings. We seek guidance, ask questions, and make up our minds. This is very much a part of the exercise of acquiring faith. It cannot be against faith.
