Conquest of Makkah in the light of the concept of Itmam e Hujjah
Question:
How come the Prophet(SAW) did not execute all the mushrikeen upon his conquest of Mecca? Shouldn't this have happened in consonance with itmam al hujjah?
Response:
Assalamo Alaikum
The fact that itmame hujjah (unquestionably clear communication of God's message) has taken place and that the people who are Mushrik (polytheists) are to be killed was announced by the Almighty, according to the Qur'an, on the 9th Hijrah at the time of Hajj. The Qur'an says: "Let announcement be made on behalf of Allah and His messenger to the people on the day of Hajj (of 9 Hijri) that Allah owes no obligations for (the protection of) the polytheists nor does the messenger. If you (O polytheists) repent , then (know that) it would be better for you. And if you turn away from it, then know (clearly) that you cannot frustrate Allah (in His plans). And give to those who have disbelieved the news of a grievous punishment." Qur'an; 9:3) That announcement allowed the Mushrikin four months within which to take the decision of accepting Islam. Thus formal announcement of itmame hujjah and its consequent result of punishment on the Mushrikin took place more than a year after the conquest of Makkah. And Allah knows the best.
