Re: Are Ahmadis murtad?

Question:
I agree that your consider Ahmadis to be Ahle Kitab but can they call themselves Muslims? When they believe in God Almighty, the Prophet (sws), and other tenets of Islam but not the finality of prophethood, in the sense that there will be Imam Mehdi coming after Prophet (sws)? Our common belief is that Imam Mehdi will come towards the end. Now that you think that Eesa, alaihissalam, has died, then who will be Imam Mahdi, and what would be his status (rasul or nabi)?

Response:
Ahmadis have a right to call themselves by whatever name they so choose, so long it has not been declared prohibited by the law of a state for them. The diffciulty for them is that the Government of Pakistan has declared them as a non-Muslim minority and has prevented them from using the expression, 'Muslim' for themslves, and to use Islamic symbols and expressions for their religious purposes. So long as the law remains the way
it is, they will have to live with it or else leave this country and become a part of a community which allows them to do and say what they want to, in their religious matters.

The Qur'an neither tells that Eesaa, alaihissalaam, is to return nor does it give any information about the arrival of the coming of Imam Mehdi. All information about these two promised arrivals is contained in books of hadith. That information is debatable, but is most certainly not a part of the Islamic faith, which can only emerge from the Qur'an, which is a completly preserved text from God Almighty. Any information contained in a less authentic source, like books of hadith, can, at best, be a serious piece of
information, but most certainly cannot be an article of faith.
