Significance of the Kabah's black stone

Question:
Why do we Muslims kiss and revere the black stone at Ka’bah? Is it must? If we kiss it becuse Prophet Muhammad kissed it, then why did the Prophet kiss it in the first place?

Response:
Kissing the black stone or signalling at it are all symbolic acts of worship. The black stone is symbolically the right hand of God (Yaminullah), like the three monuments in Mina are symbolically representing the presence of Shaitaan. The idea is to create the spirit of reviving the covenant of allegiance with God, the way it used to be done by the members of a tribe with the chief of that tribe. Because the ritual has been given to us by God and there is no element of anyone except God involved in it, it is perfectly okay.
