MORE Q/A

Doctors taking commissions for referring patients to particular centers etc.

Question:
Most of the doctors these days, take commission from their colleagues/labs/diagnostic centres/pharmaceuticals for sending/referring the patients to them etc. What do you say about this kind of practice? Is it Haram or not?

Response:
I think in the present form this practice is unethical. Islam is against all unethical practices. Let us not talk in the vocabulalry of haram and halal. Let's face the fact that whatever is unethical is unacceptable to God.

This practice, to me, would become ethically fine if the doctors make it known to their patients that they get a commission on recommending them to a particular diagnostic centre, and that they (the patients) are free to go elsewhere.
