Is Another Prophet Expected to come ?
Question:
You have mentioned that Holy Quran doesn't require you to believe in a subsequent Prophet of Khatamunnabiyyin. In response to that I have sent you two e-mails quoting about 3 verses of the Holy Quran, Mithaqunnabiyyin which has been taken from all Nabi including Hadhrat Mohammad sal-lallaho wa'alahe wasallam. I hope you have received those e-mails but so far I haven't received a response from your end. The Holy Quran is very clear about the coming of an Ummati Nabi. If I am wrong, could you please guide me and save me from the hell-fire and if I am right then you should save yoursel and others from it. Allah Almighty says, "Believers save yourself and your family from the fire." I think in your case the family extends to include your countrymen, as you have the opportunity to teach them, and it is upon you to guide them also. A hadith says "All of you are shepherds and all of you are accountable for your herds." May Allah help us and guide us all.
Response:
My understanding is that hell-fire is going to be the abode of people who deny the truth deliberately. If someone genuinely thinks on the basis of his honest understanding that his belief is correct and continues to look for the truth, he cannot be blamed for his belief even if it is wrong.
There are three verses on mithunnabbiyyin in the Qur'an: Verse 3:187 mentions the mithaaq which the Almighty took from earlier prophets about the arrival of prophet Muhammad, alaihissalaam. People who believe in the arrival of a new prophet like you think that the mithaaq mentioned in verse 33:7 was about another prophet to come since it mentions prophet Muhammad, alaihissalam, amongst those who made the undertaking. The fact is that the latter mithaaq was the same as mentioned in verse 13 of surah Shura (42) which mentions the same five prophets that have been mentioned in 33:7. In both verses God is requiring the great five prophets to "be steadfast in Din (God's religion) and not be divided in it."
Had God intended another Nabi in His plan after Khatamunnabiyyin (the last prophet), He would have mentioned him as clearly as would have enabled those who were expected to believe in him to be knowing "him as clearly as they knew their sons (Qur'an; 2:146)." We wouldn't have had a mention of just mithaqunnabiyyin which, as I just pointed out, could have had two different interpretations. Everyone would have been looking for an 'ummati nabi' on reading a clear mention of him in the Qur'an.
