RE: Tournament organized using players' money (2)

Question:
There are two scenarios: 10 teams, each team pays $100 and the collection of their money is used for arranging the tournament. An outside company buys the prize which is $500 for the winning team.

Second; 10 teams, each pays $100 and half of their collection is used for arranging the tournament and the rest half, $500, used to buy the prize for the winning team.

To me these look identical- both similar to gambling. People play for the same reason with the same spirit. Every team pays $100 in hope of winning $500 back.

Or did I get it all wrong?

Response:
I see your point. But I am still inclined to opine that the first scenario is acceptable and the second is not, because in the first one the money that buys the prize was contributed by an outside sponsor and the participants all benefit from their own contributions in that they they enjoyed playing in the tournament. In the other case, they were vying to get the others' money. As for intentions, we should keep trying to correct them as well while we attempt to correct our actions.

I hope it clarifies. But keep asking if it doesn't, we all learn because through such exchanges.
