Extreme Poverty and God's Blessings
Question:
God as benefactor is theistic in its conception. Since I am not convinced of such a God, I do not think of "him" as a benefactor, which negates, for me, the rest of the argument.
Again, the reward/punishment idea leave me cold as ice. When I walk around among the starving and dying in Haiti, the young children with orange hair and bloated bellies, eating mud cakes with a small amount of flour, it is hard to see "all the blessings" to which you make reference.
So much extreme poverty in the Islamic world also. Where are the blessings of a Theistic God, called Father in Christianity?
Response:
When you say that you don't believe in God and therefore the 'benefactor' aspect of the argument is not applicable in your case, you have a point. We as Muslims wouldn't bother you by inviting you to faith because you have already stated your lack of interest in the project. Had it not been a common forum, I would have considered it an Islamic duty not to write to you. The Qur'an binds me to address only those people who are interested in learning the message. Those who are not interested, their creator will take care of them Himself.
As for the miseries of some people, I can assure you that many rich people have sometimes greater miseries to endure. Life in its entirety is a blessing. Those who suffer also have pleasant things in life; those who suffer less have problems in life too. When people you think are leading miserable lives have a new child, do they mourn the occasion or celebrate it? Most certainly the ones who are benefiting less from God's blessings will be less accountable to Him.
Muslims are suffering more because God is causing them to suffer. God has promised them glory of both worlds if they behave morally well. Since they are doing just the opposite, they are receiving just the opposite. I can clearly see God in the suffering of Muslims. Their present suffering is the fulfilling of God's promise with them as was His promise with the Jews: "If you will be good, you will be good for your benefit, and if you will be otherwise, you will have to face the consequences of it." On the average, the present-day Muslims are more corrupt than all others. On the average, the present-day Muslims are suffering more than any other nation.
