“I am convinced about the veracity of my opinions, but I do consider it likely that they may turn out to be incorrect. Likewise, I am convinced about the incorrectness of the views different from mine, but I do concede the possibility that they may turn out to be correct.” — Imam Shafa’i
MORE Q/A

Will we held accountable for every word we speak?

Question:
I heard that every word we speak is either for us or against us. How is that applicable on every word, even in a general conversation?

Response:
There are three types of things we say: those that are good, for which we are going to be rewarded; those that are bad for which we are going to held accountable; and those that are neither this nor that, like many things we say in our daily routine, which are going to be ignored. As the Almighty says:

"Allah is not going to make you accountable for the casual oaths you make".
