Imam Mehdi

Question:
Shia Muslims commonly believe that there is an Imam (Imam Mehdi), who is there in ghaibat (unseen) and He will come soon. Why don’t Sunni Muslims believe in him?

Response:
Sunni Muslims have a basic difference of opinion with the Shia Muslims regarding the concept of Imam. The Sunnis don't agree with Shias that God Almighty appointed Imams who were to lead Muslims in religious and political matters after the death of the prophet, alaihissalaam. They don't agree with the Shia texts of the Hadith that lead them to believe in the concept of Imams. They also disagree with the Shias in the interpretation of the verses which Shias present to prove that the Almighty appointed Imams to guide the Muslims.
